Asking for my fiancé who hasn’t been eating nearly enough. I calculated what he eats in a normal day and it’s about 1500 cal. He (5’9” 27) was 135 lb but got serious and tracked 3000 cal/day and went to the gym 5 days a week an hour at a time and got up to 150 lb, but he got so sick of eating that he’s been coming back down (still goes to the gym 3 days an hour at a time). He’s eating so little it’s giving him anxiety and he can’t sleep all through the night. I’m worried about the effect on his wellness that poor nutrition brings.
I’m trying to think of ways he can get more calories but it’s difficult since I (5’2” 25 F) have been doing ~1200 cal/day and strength only 1 hr once a week (consistently losing 1.2 lb/wk for 4 months now with variance R=0.98) and so I seem to only come up with low cal meal ideas. I’ve been trying to facilitate him getting an extra meal in the afternoon, but then he doesn’t eat dinner later that evening. Last night a protein bar at 4pm prevented him from eating the sloppy joe and coleslaw I made at 8pm.
How do I help my guy who hates eating and won’t eat more than thrice a day his nutrition? And in advance, if any feel it’s not my place to get involved with this; that’s just how we roll. It was him constantly expressing worry when I would eat my daily pastries and candy that I finally kicked my sugar addiction years ago. I want to do the same for him and help him be happy and healthy <3
TL;DR: looking for tips (eg meal ideas and tricks) to get proper nutrition (ideally a caloric surplus) for a 5’9” 27 year old man who won’t eat more than thrice per day and despises food.
